As we all know knitting is popular and widely practiced but let’s not forget about its little sister “crochet”, let’s give the art of crochet some attention too. Yes, I said it, “little sister” because knitting appears to be a much older practice, crochet on the other hand is said to have appeared more recently. We are not going to confuse you with dates, centuries, and all this origin talk because you can find sooo many different theories online about when knitting vs. crochet first appeared that it’s not worth our time to get into the debate. What we want to focus on today is WHY crochet is an art that YOU should get started as soon as possible and we promise you that you won’t regret it!
Same goes with knitting, you’ve probably read this a billion time elsewhere crochet is soothing and the perfect way to destress! Nothing more relaxing than sitting down and working on a new crochet project. Plus, studies show that it’s good for the brain, this reason alone should be enough to convince you to start crocheting but since we love you so much here’s some other reasons why it’s amazing…
Well I guess it’s debatable whether knitting or crochet is easier let’s not start a war with this one, but for the most part crochet is quick to learn and that everyone can confirm it! Along with it being easy it’s also fast to make, sure when you’ll begin you won’t go Usain Bolt’s fast on your pattern but soon enough you’ll realize how quickly you can do it!
What do we mean by that? Two things.
First you have more freedom than when knitting, indeed it’s more versatile, you can create more complex form, have fun, be creative, you can do more than the neatly aligned loops on your needles, go wild, take a turn!
And secondly you can do it ANYWHERE, arts and crafts are all equally amazing, but do you really see yourself in public transportation with your big canvas, acrylic paints, water, paint brushes and much more…? uhm not so much, sounds messy… Meanwhile with crochet you only really need 2 small things: crochet hook and yarn, sounds more transportable right?
This one goes without saying. We wouldn’t tell you to invest time on something if the end result of your creation would turn out purely ugly, we’re not that mean. Here with crochet the possibilities are quite endless, don’t give up because you hear people telling you that crochet is a hassle when it comes to finding good patterns, no! With some determination and digging you can find a wide range of patterns, from clothing, accessories to even deco!
Talking about accessories one of our latest article offers you not 1 but 2 FREE patterns of crochet belts!
So, no excuses not to try it out! And if you want more crochet patterns go to Bergère de France and you’ll find for sure something that will suit your interest…

Who thought crocheting will make you the center of attention? You can make connection with this new hobby of yours, how so? If people see you with your crochet hook and yarn, there are good chances that they’ll get curious and ask you the following questions:
🙄“Oh, so you like knitting?” Umh not really… It’s called “crochet”
👵“Did your grandma’ taught you?” We get it crochet sounds old-fashion… After all it is a tradition, it’s likely that your mom or grand mother taught you how to do it, but it’s also a hobby like any other and if you are confident enough to teach yourself how to do it, props to you!
😌“You must be really patient… I couldn’t do it!” Good thing we are not born with the quality of patience. Patience just like crochet is an art, it’s something that we develop and it’s never too late to get started. Being a patient person will benefit you in our fast-pasted world. If you don’t want to start crochet (or knitting) because you don’t view yourself as a patient person, stop it and think of it that way, by doing crochet you will acquire the quality of patience.
😁“So, can you make me something?” Well this question leads us to reason number 6
Remember being 8 years old offering your mom the famous macaroni necklace that you made with all your heart and soul at school for Mother’s Day. Same goes for Father’s Day and gifting them the good old stick figure drawing.
Where we’re going with this? Giving handmade gift has been done for years and years and is seen as something more personal than buying something last minute. It shows that you deeply care about the person, willingly spent time on them, and personalized your gift to their taste.
But now that we’re passed the socially acceptable age of offering a friend or family member a drawing for their birthday (unless you’re really really good at drawing of course) what can we offer them that isn’t store bought?
Well what about one of your crocheted creation? 🎁
And finally…
Going hand in hand with the fact that it’s a soothing activity, it will also bring you joy. ☀️☺️ Doing something with your hands brings a satisfaction like nothing else! Finishing a project, being involved and creating something that you will use is really rewarding! It gives you the ability to plan a project from start to finish and see it through, it’s a skill that you can apply in your everyday life. Crocheting is more than just a hobby…
